1. Last year, Mechteld got married. To celebrate this big event, these newlyweds went on a three-month honeymoon, travelling Europe with her dog and a Land Rover Defender. Even though she had a great time, she missed Tech to Market and her clients big time and was happy to return eventually (and so were we).
2. At the moment, Mechteld is working on an interim basis for DSM. That is not a first. It’s already the 4^thtime that she joins this global chemical company for a project in the two years she worked for T-M. It’s safe to say they are a good match.
3. Mechteld’s favorite projects involve a combination of tech and creativity. Creating a combination of ratio and emotion is what she is good at. Make smart, complex technologies and inventions attractive and easy to understand for a relevant audience. Given the fact that Mechteld studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven before she started studying Communications, that kind of makes sense.
4. During the four years that Mechteld worked at her previous employee, Eindhoven365, she brought the energetic Eindhoven vibe to the attention of visitors, residents and press in various ways. She is very proud of her contribution to the development, launch and activation of the Eindhoven brand.
5. For Eindhoven, events such as GLOW Eindhoven, Fijne Feestdagen Festival (Happy Holidays Happening) and Remember September are important to a city. During her time at Eindhoven365, Mechteld took the lead in all marketing and communications efforts of these and other events. That’s where she developed her project management and organizational skills.
6. The gap between Mechteld’s creative world (place branding, event marketing & Design Academy) and the complicated world of tech and B2B seems enormous – but not for Mechteld. She grew up in a very technical environment. Her father’s electrical engineering business was based at her home in the first 15 years of her life. At least we know where she got her entrepreneurial and ambitious mindset from.
7. Right before Mechteld turned 30, she decided to take up a great challenge to celebrate the last months of her twenties. She climbed up Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, all the way to the summit that has an altitude of 5895 meters high. It took her seven days and lots of willpower, but it was all worth it.
8. As a project manager, Mechteld likes to treat challenges as projects. Therefore, Kilimanjaro was not a standalone goal, but became an actual project. To share her experiences and training efforts, she started an online magazine called The Hike (thehike.nl). This way, she turned an experience into a business, which resulted into a partly sponsored three months ‘workation’ (slash honeymoon) in Europe.
9. Spending time in Europe is not new to Mechteld. Years ago, she did her graduation internship at the Schneider Electric headquarters in Paris. Even though she lived there for five months and graduated with a 9 out of 10, she managed not to speak yet one word of French. But hey, you can’t excel in all areas.
10. Last but not least, Mechteld likes to stay fit. Besides hiking, she is quite active by doing Crossfit and boxing (with the Tech to Market team). The energy and power she gets from it gives her strength in her work and everyday life. Furthermore, it’s necessary to balance her other addiction. Because, just like most Tech to Market team members, Mechteld is a real foody too. Italian food and chocolates are her favorites.
